Continuing our series on the 5 Voices personality framework. Next up: Guardians!

30% of people are first-Voice Guardian, which makes it the second most common Voice.

As their name suggests, Guardians "guard" well. Other key characteristics:

  • Champions of due diligence, safeguarding resources, and efficient systems and processes
  • Seek to honor the past
  • Risk adverse
  • Ask a lot of questions (… in order to safeguard…)
  • Value order and logic

Common stress triggers:

  • Lack of trust in others' credibility
  • Unnecessary risk taking
  • Arrogance

Want to empower the Guardians in your life?

  • Welcome their critique and commitment to due diligence
  • Don't take the challenge personally. Remember, they are seeking to "guard."

Consider this:

  • How much do you relate to the Guardian Voice?
  • Rate it high/medium/low and keep track of your responses to each Voice. This will help you determine your Voice Order -- the relative strength with which you use each Voice.

Why wait?

About the author

A former CPA, my career started at a Big 5 accounting firm. As part of the Family Wealth Planning group, I saw the challenges of family business and family wealth. Those challenges often overshadowed the enjoyment of working with family. I was convinced there had to be a better way, but could not find anyone who could help navigate the intersection of family, business, and wealth. Determined, I left my career in finance and earned a Masters in Psychology.
In the almost two decades since, I have learned how families can thrive -- even when business is personal. Let me help you, your family, and its business thrive.

Let's talk about what matters to you.

I am based in Charleston, SC and serve clients across North American and abroad.
